1. Course Objectives

 

• Enhance students' reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in English, higher-order thinking skills, and self-directed learning abilities.
• Arouse students' interest in learning English, and foster positive learning attitudes and habits.
• Nurture students' positive values and sense of responsibility towards the community through values education, following the example of Christ.
• Strengthen students' understanding of the rule of law, national conditions, and appreciation of different cultures.
• Promote whole-person development through diverse learning experiences, curriculum integration, and life-wide learning (LWL).

3. Course features

 

School-based materials:

Our school-based booklets are streamlined into three categories, school-based reading booklet (SBR), school- based grammar and usage booklet (SBG) and school-based writing booklet (SBW). This change ensures that students are exposed to a larger variety of text types in reading and provides them with stronger preparation before writing tasks.

 

Differentiated Assessment:

• The use of formative and summative assessments with tiered tasks (Basic, Intermediate, Advanced).
• Reading comprehension assessments include reflection sheets to develop students' self-monitoring and planning skills.

 

Immersive Learning with AR/VR:

Utilizing VR/AR technology to heighten learning interest and deepen understanding of English topics.

 

 

Flipped Classroom:

• Students from P2 to P6 use platforms like Padlet and Edpuzzle for pre-lesson preparation and extended learning, enhancing classroom interaction and effectiveness.

 

Multiple intelligences teaching and assessment:

• Teaching strategies and assessment tasks are designed to cater to and value different intelligences (e.g., verbal-linguistic, interpersonal, spatial). This allows students to demonstrate their understanding and creativity in diverse ways.

  

 

A deeper connection to Chinese culture:

• Our KS2 English curriculum welcomes ‘DTS Treasured China unit', a brand-new real-life literacy programme developed by the NET section, EDB. This exciting unit encourages students to discover the concept of culture through an understanding of famous places, food, art and history of different regions of the Mainland China, which facilitates the integration of National Security Education into the school-based English Language curriculum.

  

  

  

  

   

 

 

English Immersion Environment

NET Programme:

A structured Native English Teacher (NET) programme from P1 to P5 provides authentic language immersion through engaging, high-interest activities. These include the P1 100 Days Celebration, P3 & P5 DTS Program, P4 Poetry Learning, and P5 Debate Classes.

 

 

English Room:

Beyond having NET lessons, the English Room becomes an interactive learning centre during recess. Students are welcome to drop in for fun, communicative games and activities.

 

International Languages Day:

The International Languages Day promotes active English use across the school. It features NET presentations, dedicated speaking days, and interactive recess sessions led by English Ambassadors and parent volunteers.

 

 

Extra-curricular Activities:

Debating Team:

• Debate classes are offered to students from Primary 5 to 6 to cultivate critical thinking, expression, and collaboration skills.

 

Drama Class:

• Drama classes are offered to build students' confidence, verbal expression, and creativity through engaging role-play and performance activities.

 

Choral Speaking Team:

• The Choral Speaking Team has a long-standing record of participation in the junior category of the Speech Festival, achieving consistently satisfactory results in recent years. During regular training sessions before competitions, students diligently hone their teamwork, pronunciation, and rhythmic phrasing.
